Mentoring Your Child — Courses
Parenting is one of the most challenging roles an adult will undertake — and the one for which the least training is provided. JT’s Mentor Academy for Parents is a high-impact, outcome-driven program delivered with sensitivity and compassion. Our evidence-based courses equip parents with the knowledge, skills, and practice to become trusted guides for their children.
To increase parents’ competence and confidence in guiding their children through practical strategies that promote healthy development across every area of life.
Duration: 6 Group Sessions (2 hours each)
Mentoring Your Child (Ages 0–12)
A comprehensive parenting course for parents of children up to age 12. Participants explore the four parenting styles, develop skills as mentors for their children, learn how to motivate positive behaviors, implement protective factors against trauma, and adopt an ethical approach to discipline. Includes 15 coaching strategies to promote life skills in children.
Who It’s For:
Parents who want to practice a more effective parenting style, prevent behavior problems, strengthen communication, and promote skills that help their child navigate through life.
Duration: 6 Group Sessions (2 hours each)
Mentoring Your Teen (Ages 12–16)
A comprehensive parenting course for parents of teenagers. Participants develop practical strategies for guiding today’s teens, improve parent-teen connection and communication, promote social and emotional competence, resiliency, individuality, and independence.
Who It’s For:
Parents addressing teen risky behavior, working to prevent future behavior problems from escalating, or seeking stronger parent-teen connection.
Duration: 6 Group Sessions (2 hours each)
Mentoring Your Child: Single Parenting
Designed for single parents of children up to age 17. Covers the most common challenges single parents face, effective collaboration with non-custodial parents, building a support system, addressing behavior patterns, managing finances, reducing stress, and practicing self-care.
Who It’s For:
Single parents seeking tools to create a strong, stable home environment and thrive as the primary caregiver.
Duration: 6 Group Sessions (2 hours each)
Mentoring Your Child: For Fathers
Built specifically for fathers of children up to age 17. Explores the four parenting styles, the crucial role fathers play in cognitive, social, and emotional development, and ethical approaches to discipline. Helps fathers develop the competence and confidence to guide their child through today’s challenges.
Who It’s For:
Fathers ready to develop the traits of an engaged, available, and responsible parent — and to meet the individual needs of their sons and daughters.
Duration: 6 Group Sessions (2 hours each) — Parents strongly encouraged to attend separate classes
Co-Parenting: Best Interest of the Child
A comprehensive course for parents navigating the challenges of raising children through separation or divorce. Covers coping strategies for difficult emotions, meeting children’s needs during transition, parallel vs. co-parenting, managing different parenting styles, and effectively resolving child-related conflict.
Who It’s For:
Co-parents committed to prioritizing their child’s well-being and building an effective parenting relationship despite personal conflict.

Mentoring Your Child — Seminar Series
The Mentoring Your Child Seminar Series provides parents with a powerful preview of our full parenting courses. Each 90-minute session delivers practical strategies and tools to help you guide your children through life’s challenges — with competence and confidence.
Duration: 90 Minutes
Mentoring Your Child (Parents of Children Ages 0–12)
Introduces the four types of parenting styles. Participants explore coping strategies for difficult emotions, identify ways to meet deficiency needs in children, and learn how to problem-solve and respond effectively to challenges.
Duration: 90 Minutes
Mentoring Your Teen (Parents of Pre-Teens & Teens Ages 12–16)
Introduces the five core principles of the Mentoring Your Child program. Participants explore the four parenting styles, strategies to improve parent-teen connection and communication, and tools to promote social and emotional competence, resiliency, and independence.
Duration: 90 Minutes
Mentoring Your Child: For Single Parents
Introduces the four roles of parenting: Teacher, Coach, Cheerleader, and Referee. Explores the most common challenges single parents face and offers strategies for building support systems, managing finances, reducing stress, and embracing the rewards of single parenting.

Mentoring Your Child: For Fathers
Introduces the four roles of parenting and the four parenting styles. Explores the crucial role fathers play in cognitive, social, and emotional development of their children. Challenges fathers to adopt an ethical approach to discipline and guides them toward confident parenting.

Mentoring Your Child: For Co-Parents
Introduces the four parenting styles and explores common emotional challenges during co-parenting. Participants learn about parallel vs. co-parenting, effective ways to manage different parenting styles, and how to problem-solve and respond properly to child-related conflict.

LEADERS
DEVELOPING YOUR ATHLETIC PROGRAM
(75 – 90 MINUTES)
We will work with key stakeholders to construct, manage, and protect the culture of the Athletic Program. We will complete an infrastructure Athlete Program assessment. We will assess what is solid, can be refined, and what needs to be renovated. We will identify the Athletic Programs highest priority action items for the year.
COACHES
DEVELOPING COMPETITORS
AMATEUR (Elementary / Middle School) PREP (High School)
(75 – 90 MINUTES)
We will work with youth or high school coaches on creating a fun, competitive culture for today’s amateur or prep student-athletes. We will work with coaches to construct, manage, and promote a competitive culture. We will explore best practices for getting the best out of amateur or prep athletes.
ATHLETES
BECOMING A COMPETITOR
AMATEUR (Elementary / Middle School) PREP (High School)
(60 – 75 MINUTES)
The Becoming an Amateur or Prep Competitor workshop will provide youth with a blueprint for what it takes to become a competitor at the amateur or prep level. The focus will be on Character: Promoting your Brand; Competitor: Practicing your Grind; Cause: Pursuing your Aspirations.
COACHES
DEVELOPING AN EFFECTIVE TEAM CULTURE
(75 – 90 MINUTES)
We will work with coaches to construct, manage, and promote team culture. We will explore coaching strategies for pre-competition, during competition, and post competition. Coaches will work to develop an intentional practice plan.
PARENTS
CHALK TALK
(30 – 45 MINUTES)
The Parent Chalk Talk provides parents or guardians with suggestions on how to become effective sports-parents. Parents are provided with strategies on how to best support their child or teen pre-competition, during competition, and post competition.
PARENTS
RAISING COMPETITORS
AMATEUR (Elementary / Middle School) PREP (High School)
(60 – 75 MINUTES)
Raising Amateur or Prep Competitors provides parents or guardians with the opportunity to define their goals and examine ways they can best support their child or teen through youth or high school sports. Parents are provided with strategies on how to best support their child or teen pre-competition, during competition, and post competition.

INCOMING STUDENT ATHLETES
THE FRESHMAN COMPETITOR
AMATEUR (Middle School) PREP (High School)
(45 – 60 MINUTES)
The Freshman Competitor assembly introduces incoming student-athletes to the culture of middle school or high school sports. It provides Freshman Competitors with tools to navigate the transition. The focus will be on displaying good character and developing a standard to compete in the classroom and on the field.
TEAM CAPTAINS & LEADERS
BECOMING AN INFLUENTIAL CAPTAIN
AMATEUR (Middle School) PREP (High School)
(60 – 75 MINUTES)
The Becoming an Influential Captain workshop will define the role and responsibilities of a team leader. The workshop will provide leaders with a plan to develop influence with coaches, teammates, and classmates. The focus will be on making teammates and classmates better.
